    • Angular application unification: merged two Angular 8 applications into a single modular and scalable Angular 18 application, independently compilable for each web mode (including cleaning the code and releasing the package of both apps).
    • Technical leadership: acting as senior developer and team leader of Frontend and Backend, with full project documentation and mentoring of trainees and junior developers.
    • TypeScript migration: added TypeScript to both applications, fixing +140k typing errors.

    • Architecture and performance: componentized the macro application, separated and cleaned up modules and applied clean design and architecture patterns across the whole app.
    • Visual redesign: rebuilt the entire CSS from scratch, modularizing it and implementing nesting (removing all !important), light/dark mode and a reactive color palette system where the user can create and switch palettes for the whole site.
    • Charting system: built from scratch with Chart.js, customizing a large number of charts, plugins and features, with complete documentation (behavior, plugins, data flow and cache).
    • Database optimization: restructured, cleaned and normalized the PostgreSQL database (90+ tables), adding all FKs and iterating the model for new requirements, improving performance and scalability.
    • Backend refactoring: migration and creation of a new backend in hexagonal architecture based on microservices with Java Spring Boot.

Konglomerate was a website developed as a university project by a team of 7. We worked with Agile methodology, and I actively participated in setting up the initial project structure and configuring it with another colleague (DevOps). Then, I worked with two colleagues on the backend side, designing the database and developing the CRUDs. I then moved on to the frontend side, where I was in charge of fixing some bugs and implementing other features with two other colleagues. Finally, I returned to the more DevOps part by setting up the environment for deployment to production on Heroku.

Who I am

About me

My name is Álvaro Guillén González. I wrote my first scripts at 14, back in school, and today I build full-stack web applications for a living.

One thing I'm proud of: as an Assistant Professor at the University of Barcelona, I built the SQLite integration, CRUD and data layer for a Design Patterns (MVC) course — and that code is still in use there today.

For my final degree project (TFG) I took on one of the biggest challenges of my studies: teaching myself to apply software and architectural patterns at the level companies are actively hiring for.

Since then I've built web applications around architectural patterns that keep code scalable at enterprise level, and I'm always pushing that expertise further.
